Get into our guide on how to give your wardrobe a seasonal update like a pro.

ACCESS YOUR CURRENT WARDROBE

Before you do any heavy lifting it’s crucial to access your current wardrobe. When doing so look for all the items that may be a little worn, torn, or the ones that you’re simply tired of and bored with. This step will ensure that you get rid of all unwanted items before packing away your current wardrobe. It’s also great for ensuring you don’t store away extra clutter you don’t need. Three tips for knowing when to get rid of an item is if you haven’t worn it the entire season, if it’s super old, torn or stained in anyway, and or if it just doesn’t bring you joy any longer. Once you identify those items you’re on to the next steps

GET RID OF UNWANTED ITEMS

When getting rid of items in your current wardrobe categorize them into four sections which are keeping, getting rid of, donating, and selling. Next identify the items that you’d want to keep for next season, get rid of, donate, or sell. You’d want to keep the seasonal pieces that are wardrobe staples, items that you wear often and or items that bring you joy. Get rid of items that are old or worn or uninspiring. You can donate the clothing that you don’t need anymore but are still in good enough condition for somebody else to use. And finally you can sell items that are like new that you’ve never worn or lightly worn on sites such as ThreadUp where you gain a commission for the clothing you donate to the brand. Great items to resell are usually your designer pieces or trendy sort-after pieces that are in still great condition. Once you’re done organizing your clothing, pack away the clothing that you’re keeping for next season and discard the rest.

BRING IN THE NEW SEASON’S CLOTHES

This is the fun part! Reuniting with your old beloved pieces is always a great time as it get’s you excited for the new season ahead. As you unpack you’ll may notice some gaps in your wardrobe. This may be a need for new closet staples, updates or replacements of items you already own, or some of the season’s new trends you’d like to try. It’s also a great time to do another closet purge and get ride of stuff from this season’s wardrobe you may no longer need. Once this is done, write out a shopping list of items you’d like to purchase for the new season. Remember when shopping and introducing new items into your closet to always keep the current season’s staples in your wardrobe as it will act as a base when styling outfits.

STYLE AND EXPERIMENT WITH YOUR NEW WARDROBE

Once your seasonal wardrobe is nicely packed out and you’ve done a bit of shopping (if necessary) it’s time to get into styling! Like reuniting with the old pieces, styling up your new season’s wardrobe is as equally exciting! This is a great time to try some new outfit formulas you haven’t tried in seasons passed and or try the trends of the moment.
