All hands raise if you’re a part of the “always cold crew.” Here’s a confession, me too. Whether rain, sun, shine, sleet, or snow I’m always cold at one point or the other during the day no matter the season. And because feeling chilly is one of those things I disdain, I’ve learned how to armor up against it. Peep below for my four useful layering in winter tips on how to keep those drafts out and stay nice and cozy all fall winter.

THE DOUBLE LAYER – Turtleneck + Sweater

We’ve seen this one a thousand times before but for good reason. It’s really a tried and true layering in winter hack that’s been keeping us cute and cozy for years. Layering a sweater over a turtleneck acts a double barrier against the winter winds because it doubles up on the heat and keeps you insulated. It also creates a great color block moment if you decide to wear contrasting colors and really adds dimension to any look. Pair this combo with some jeans and ankle boots. Or a stylish skirt and some over the knee boots like I did.

THE UNDER LAYER – Leggings Under Jeans

This tip is one of my go to layering hacks and I basically use it throughout fall winter. Those chilly drafts have a way of piercing through your jeans or bottoms and I’m just not a fan of that at all. To combat the cold, I layer a thin legging under my jeans. It keep me insulated and act as extra barrier that doesn’t allow the cold in. This one is really a game changer, especially if you’re always cold because it allows you to stay out in the elements longer without the feeling the effects immediately. Try it on a day where you have multiple errands to run and will be outside longer than usual. I bet it’ll change your life forever. Okay, maybe that’s a little exaggeration, but this hack really works. It isn’t so visual like the others, but it’s one that should definitely be in your back pocket.

THE INSULATOR – Socks Over Leggings

The insulator is kind of like an add on to “the under layer.” After you’re done layering your leggings under your jeans to keep extra heat in, layer your socks over those leggings. I find that wearing your socks over your leggings as opposed to under, better insulates your ankles. This hack is especially useful when you’re wearing a cropped pair of jeans/ trousers and you don’t want the wind blowing on your ankles. You can also use it as a little style moment by wearing socks that compliments the rest of your outfit. So when you sit and your socks peek out they still look cute and fashion forward instead of something completely different from your outfit. You know stylish from head to toe, if you’re into that kind of thing.

THE OVER LAYER – Skirt Over Leggings Or Tights|Stocking

Sometimes we get tired of wearing jeans or trousers during the fall winter months and we want to switch it up with a cool skirt without being cold. An easy way to pull this off is by wearing pair of thin leggings that compliments the look under your skirt. If you’re going for a more dressy look or an evening event substitute the leggings with sheer tights. The stockings isn’t as warm as the other layering options but it keeps in a little bit of heat and is better than having your bare skin exposed to the wind.
