Every year I love watching the top trends of season take shape and come to life. It’s continuously fascinating to me how we all collectively agree on the looks of the moment and then spread them like wildfire. This season’s fall 2021 fashion trends is no different. Much like the roaring 20s, everyone coming out of the pandemic has been ready to get dressed to the nines and frequent their favorite places. And we’re not just talking about the regular kind of getting dressed up. This year it’s about going all out and the trends reflect that. Everything from bold brights in the middle of fall to daring cut outs is all a part of the mix. Jump into the goods below!
Puffer Up
The puffer coat have long been a fall winter staple but this season it’s taking new shape coming in many left-of-the-norm colors and textures. The quilted puffer is especially hot this go round emerging as a must-have staple in all the retailers from luxury to high street. Go for a statement color like red to make a splash or keep in casual with a classic black buffer. Either way, heads will turn as shape is sometimes loud enough to do all the talking for you.
Fitted & Knitted
In 2021, we’re trading in our matching loungewear sweatsuits for chic knitwear in all forms. Much like the former, knitwear is an excellent way to maintain the coziness of sweats yet look and feel luxe and elevated. Try a matching knit set paired with some boots to make fall winter dressing easy. Or break it up in separates with a stunning knit top or sweater for dinner or knitted skirt for a day look.
A Splash of Color
Color is no longer reserved for summer days only. Thank the heavens! This season more of us are leaning into the concept of wearing a splash of color here and there during the colder months. It’s a great way to carry the joy of the summer with you into fall and winter. Plus the look is just stand out. Outwear and accessories are some great places to incorporate this trend. And if you’re ready to give it a go, come out of your comfort zone with a stunning orange coat or try a pair of deep purple gloves which are also trending at the moment.
Going Sherling
If it isn’t sherliing we don’t want it. That’s the motto this season. Outside of puffers, sherling coats are also making waves. But it doesn’t just stop at outerwear. You can find sherling in the top accessories and even shoes of the season. Much like knits, it keeps you warm and cozy but also packs a stylish punch.
Leather Me Up
Of all the trends leather pieces have been reigning supreme over the past few season. But this year, designers and retailers have made the staple more trendy by offering it up in new bold colors and cuts. You can now get just about anything on the market in faux leather. Pencil midi skirt in cognac faux leather? Done! Stunning statement top in faux leather. Considering it handled. Take your pick.
Sweater vest WEATHER
A break out trend this season has been sweater vests. Much like the nature of a fad, you either love or hate this one. We think it’s a great way to add a little prep into your look without it becoming stuffy. Layer it over a crisp shirt or wear it as is to truly display all its sweater vest goodness.
Tailor Made
Smart dressing has gone to a whole new level this season with tailored looks including everything from sharp coats to sleek blazers taking center stage. If the tailored vibe has always been a little too classic for you, here’s the good news. This season the trend has taken on a life of its own pushing the boundaries a little bit further. This time around it’s all about committing to the full aesthetic. If you’re going to dabble, then you have to style up the structured coat over the clean blazer over the crisp white shirt over the sleek trousers over the oxfords. You get the drift. And if diving full fledge into the trend isn’t your thing, you can always start small by adding one smart piece to your arsenal.
A Handle on it
Not only has the mini bag made a come back, but the top handle mini bag is literally starting it’s own movement right now. Whether it’s the Balenciaga Hourglass or a high street version, top handle bags are the way to go this season. They’re practically omnipresent and you can find one for yourself in any color, size, shape, or form. Trust me.
CROP OUT Cut Outs
Cutouts haven’t always been my favorite thing. But I must say in the past few years and especially this season, retailers have found a way to elevate them to a point where they are polished, sleek, and effortless. Plus, you can now find them in just about any piece. Everything from dresses to sweaters is fair game.
Chocolate Velvet
Another trend that’s been reigning supreme is chocolate brown or neutrals in general. The luxe color which hasn’t always been a mainstream attraction like it is now, has been stealing the show for the past couple seasons. And isn’t showing any signs of slowing down either. This fall you can find the color showing up in just about every piece in your wardrobe. Leaving lots of creative freedom for you to decide where you like to incorporate it. Baby step into the trend by trying the color in a pair of boots or accessories. Or go full fledge by styling up a monochrome chocolate look which might be the item.
